When the Australind train service was introduced in 1947, it represented the vital completing link in the provision of a new coordinated rail-road service network throughout the State’s south-west. The Perth-Bunbury luxury passenger express service offered all the latest creature comforts including - for the first time on any Australian railway - fluorescent lighting.

AvonLink

Since the new 12 million AvonLink came into service in August 1, 2005, passengers can expect a smoother, faster and more comfortable ride aboard Australia’s latest commuter train. This upgraded commuter service represents a major investment by the WA Government into powered railcars.

Prospector

The new state-of-the-art high speed Prospector, introduced into service on 28 June 2004, can travel at up to 160kmh, enabling it to complete the 653km trip from Perth to Kalgoorlie in nearly six hours. This is almost two hours quicker than the current journey, making the train ride competitive with road for the first time.
