East Coast Discovery Pass
Brisbane to Cairns (or vice versa) Pass (formerly The Wanderer Rail Pass)
The East Coast Discovery Pass offers a value for money, flexible rail pass giving access to all major coastal tourist destinations along Queensland’s east coast between Brisbane and Cairns. The pass has unlimited stops and is available for one directional travel (north or south) in an economy seat over a six-month period.
Using the pass, you will have access to internationally recognised destinations and attractions including the Gold Coast, Fraser Island and The Whitsunday regions.
Travel in style and relax onboard the famous Sunlander or innovative Tilt Train and journey along Queensland’s magnificent coastline, accessing brilliant white sandy beaches, stunning islands and the Great Barrier Reef.
The pass also offers half price return travel to your origin station and half price return travel to an inland destination on either The Westlander, Spirit of the Outback or The Inlander services.
East Coast Discovery Passes options are also available to connect to interstate destinations including Sydney and Melbourne.
The East Coast Discovery Pass is a must-have for every backpacker or budget-minded traveller.

Terms and Conditions for travel between Brisbane and Cairns
- The Pass is valid for travel from Brisbane to Cairns or vice versa
- Travel is only valid in one direction (North or South)
- Pass holder has six (6) months from the purchase of the pass to commence travel and six (6) months from the first travel date to the expiry of the pass to complete travel.
- Valid for economy seats only – however upgrade to business seats or sleeping berths is permitted upon payment of the appropriate difference in the fare.
- Customers cannot back track to travel on previously travelled or unused sectors.
- Pass holder is allowed a 50% discount on the rail portion of their fare for travel back to their point of origin by the expiry date of the pass. Normal berth fees apply.
- Pass holder can also get a 50% discount off the rail fare on one return journey on any Outback service.
- Available for use on Trainlink coach connections to and from Hervey Bay, Yeppoon and Airlie Beach/Shute Harbour.
- Available on Citytrain services for day of travel connections to a Traveltrain service.
- There are no concessions for students, seniors, pensioners or children.
- There is no requirement for a Passport to be provided and both international and domestic customers can purchase an East Coast Discovery pass.
- No refund on passes once travel has commenced. Unused Passes can be refunded at the office of issue within 325 days of issue.
- Normal rebooking fees apply to any ticketed bookings
- Passes are not transferable

Terms and Conditions for Interstate Passes
The East Coast Discovery Pass is available for travel on Countrylink services along the Melbourne/Sydney/ Brisbane corridor only.
- Travel is only valid in one direction (North or South)
- Pass holder has six (6) months from the purchase of the pass to commence travel and six (6) months from the first travel date to the expiry of the pass to complete travel.
- Valid for economy seats only – however upgrade to first class seats or sleeping berths is permitted upon payment of the appropriate difference in the fare.
- Customers cannot back track to travel on previously travelled or unused sectors.
- In conjunction with any East Coast Discovery Pass, pass holders will be entitled to one (1) return trip to a destination west of the main CountryLink east coast rail line at a 50% discount.
- The 50% discounted fares are valid for one (1) return trip from Albury, Wagga, Junee, Cootamundra, Sydney, Maitland or Grafton to any western region location OR from a regional NSW location to Sydney and return.
- Travel is on a return basis only, must fall within the applicable pass sectors and both forward and return journeys must be booked and paid for at the same time.
- Pass holders originating from any regional NSW location are also entitled to a 50% fare on the return trip to the origin of where their pass commences - eg Dubbo-Sydney-Dubbo 50% discount fare is available to connect in Sydney with a Sydney to Melbourne East Coast Discovery Pass. In conjunction with any East Coast Discovery Pass, pass holders will also be entitled to one (1) single trip to the point of origin listed on their pass at a 50% discount.
- Travel is on a one way basis returning to the point of origin only.
- The 50% discount fares above apply to economy and first class rail fares.
- Normal berth charges apply on top of the 50% discounted first class rail fare.
- May be re-booked upon payment of the applicable re-booking fees.
- Can not be used in conjunction with any other CountryLink fare.
- Student, Pensioner and other concession discounts are not available.
- There is no requirement for a Passport to be provided and both international and domestic customers can purchase the pass.
- No refund on passes once travel has commenced. Unused Passes can be refunded at the office of issue within 325 days of issue.
- Passes are not transferable.
